Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

If there’s a cookie that could earn the title of “Best Loved Cookie” I think the Chocolate Chip Cookie would win by leaps and bounds. While it is well-loved, there’s always the question…Chewy or Crunchy?!? A big dilemma for most households, I know. My family is pretty set on chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies so I set out on a mission to find the B.E.S.T. chewy recipe. I know everyone has “their” recipe, but after getting rave reviews for several years about this recipe I thought I might share it. (I’m sure Betty Crocker won’t mind. 😉 )

Chocolate Chip Cookies

3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup butter or stick margarine, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1 large egg
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (optional)
1 bag (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips (2 cups)

~Heat oven to 375*

~Beat sugars, butter, vanilla and egg in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt (dough will be stiff). Stir in nuts and chocolate chips.

~Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.

~Bake 8-10 minutes or until light brown (centers will be soft). Cool 1 to 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack.

 

***I have to admit that I attribute such amazing cookies to the stoneware baking sheets I use to bake them. These are specifically Pampered Chef but I’ve seen them other places. Anytime I’ve ever used another baking sheet (ie….metal) they’ve not turned out the same. The stoneware bakes them so evenly. They turn out deliciously chewy every time!

  1. This is the nestle toll house recipe 🙂 my favorite recipe. The trick to chewey cookies, bake lower amounts of time and ALWAYS make sure you have enough flour, or a little more than recommended, otherwise you get flat cookies. For a cookie that melts in your mouth, is soft, but crumbly, not moist, then 2 and 1/4 cups or more of flour! Do not add more sugar. Will send you the best sugar cookie recipe soon, it has won contests, and of coarse as all things the greatest in cooking it is PA Amish 🙂
