“Lust ruins our relationships, robs us of spiritual passion, and leaves us feeling hollow…”
This quote was taken from Joshua Harris’s book, “Not Even a Hint“. The book title was changed in 2005 to “Sex is not the Problem, Lust is“. I completed reading this book a few months ago and I highly recommend it. The steps which Joshua recommends in this book are not limited to getting victory over the flesh in only sexual lusts, but in every area in which our flesh fights to have the dominance. You will discover in this book that there is not, “thee Key” for overcoming lust, but rather a continual pursuit of filling our spirit by sowing to the spirit.
You may now be thinking, “Ah, thats it? I suppose I’ll keep looking till I find the key”. The teachings which Christ wants us to follow are never complicated. There is no special interpretation which is given only to certain men to reveal. The truth, God’s Word, and not mens words will set you free!
This book can be summarized in one verse which Paul wrote in Galatians 6:7-9, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Here are eight methods of sowing to the spirit which Joshua suggests in his book:
- take time to read and study Scripture daily
- gather with fellow believers in our local church to worship and be instructed by God’s Word.
- serve in our local church
- seek God in prayer.
- talk with a Christian friend about God’s character and faithfulness
- memorize passages of God’s Word and meditate on His promises
- read a Christian book that encourages us to love God more
- listen to a Christian song that strengthens our faith.
Don’t be as many christians who seem to be surprised when they reap corruption in their life. YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW. This book will help you get victory over your lust through the power of the Word of God!
