Hello, Chloe Joy!

As the days grew closer to my due date to deliver Chloe I became more and more eager to meet her. If you’re a mother, you know exactly what I mean! I had heard various tips (wives tales?) about natural ways to encourage labor so I thought, hey! Why not? Bring on the pineapple juice and eggplant parmesan! I had heard major stories about the eggplant parmesan. Funny enough, I did go into labor the next morning after eating it! Coincidence? I’m not entirely sure. 😉

The next morning, on a Saturday, I woke up at 5:30 with serious contractions. I knew right away that these contractions were different than the ones I had been feeling for the past couple of months. But just to make sure that it was actually labor I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. After going back to bed and continuing to have contractions I knew THIS WAS IT! I couldn’t wait for Ben, my mom, and sister to wake up so I could tell them. But, I knew it was going to be a long day and that sleep would be best at the moment.

So the day continued with contractions being strong but somewhat inconsistent. I had a nifty app on my phone to keep track of my contractions and that was super helpful! We went to the park, took LOTS of walks, played games, took MORE walks. Finally around 8:00 pm my contractions got more consistent and much stronger. It was becoming harder and harder to act like they weren’t there! I needed some distractions so we pulled out Phase 10. We got through a couple phases and I announced that at the end of the game it might be a good idea to do the final packing of the hospital bags just to be ready when the time comes. Suddenly I had the realization that it might be too late then. “Maybe after this PHASE we should go pack the bags!” In fact, I’m not even sure we made it through the phase! haha

We hurriedly packed the bags all up and called the doctor. It was time. By the time we made it to the hospital I was 5 cm dilated. Perfect! Ben and I settled in and around 3am the nurse suggested we both get some sleep. Sleep?! Who can sleep at a time like this?! Needless to say, that was a long night. About 5:30 things became much more intense. After paging the nurse and finally getting a doctor in there to check me (they had a full house that night!) they told me I was 10 cm and it was time! I was finally going to meet my baby girl. Scary but exciting moment.

At 7:32 am they placed little Chloe on my chest and it was impossible to hold back the tears of joy. God had been SO good to us and given us a beautiful girl. We had prayed for her. We don’t deserve her. We don’t deserve God’s goodness in our lives. And yet, he chooses to bless us. Praise God for the great things He does in our lives!

My mom and sister were able to make it out for 2 1/2 weeks! Chloe wanted to spend as much time with them as possible so she made her entrance just a couple days after they arrived in town. 🙂
